These work so much better than normal ratch straps. I bought these to tie-down 2 iSUPs to the top of our Yukon. In the past we used ratchet straps; but the ratchets often dug into the boards… these are much gentler to use and hold just as well.

I have a set of surfboard rack pads that I’ve had for over a decade and the straps were finally deteriorating after all these years and pushing the limits with long road trips at high speeds. These are nice and wide, especially compared to my old set, which will be better for my boards. The lock mechanism works well and appears really well made. I’m going to be happy using these – first surf trip is coming up soon and I’ve test fitted these once (forgot to take pictures) and will trust them on the interstate.

My wife and I have a number of different water toys including paddle boards and kayaks and for years I’ve been using the inexpensive orange hardware store ratchet straps to secure them to the roof racks of our SUV. I never quite saw the advantages to more expensive straps but after using these Hang 11 straps, I don’t think I’ll ever go back to the inexpensive ones because these are SO much better in my opinion. I absolutely love them. For starters, there thicker than all of my other straps, both in the thickness of the material and the width of the strap. That makes them feel more heavy duty and makes it a lot easier to manage. The buckles are nice and thick and easy to cinch down and they’re even covered with a rubber sleeve so there’s no concerns about scratching our paddle boards or rubbing through the plastic on my kayak. The nice wide straps help to spread out the load a bit to so you can really cinch them down tight without worrying about them cutting into anything. They’re 15 feet so they’re plenty long enough to go around my kayak and secure it to the roof racks. I even love that you get a nice little carrying bag to keep them in so it keeps them from getting all tangled up like all of my other straps. Overall, I’m super happy with these straps and for $22.99 (at the time of this review) I think they’re a great value for straps of this quality. I would definitely recommend them.

I bought cheap straps locally at the cheap blue store that worked, barely. I love that these are wide come in a case and have rubber over the buckle. I didn’t like that they were wrapped starting at the end away from the buckle. The tight turns of the first loops made the end hard to get started. I cut off about two inches and store these wrapped from the buckle end keeping the tip easy to start.

They work well – secure our Kayaks on the roof – and are well made. I love the padded buckles – they protect the car 100% when we throw the buckles over.

Good, strong straps for surfboards and more. The buckle is shrouded in rubber housing so that you won’t damage vehicle paint (windows) due to tossing over the roof or dragging the strap ends. This housing has a bit of a tradeoff, however, as it makes threading the strap and access to the buckles more difficult. Nevertheless, worth it IMO to prevent paint damage; just takes a little more time to thread and get loaded up. If you don’t like it, you could cut all -or part of- the rubber housing off with a razor knife but I kept it for the benefits of protecting paint.

Nylon strap is not as wide as some premium brand surf straps that I own but this one is decent and strong enough that I would trust it to secure my boards, etc. Buckles seem strong enough for intended use. Appreciate the extra length to use with multiple boards or kayak; again you can cut the strap if you will never need the extra length.

These surfboard tie down straps are outstanding. i use these straps to strap my 12 foot fishing kayak to a trailer. The extra wide strap gives you more confidence when you are driving down a highway. The rubber clasps are the best feature. highly recommend!!!!!

  8. LB

I love kayaking, but I dread strapping it to the rack of my car. I always find myself fumbling with ratchet straps and wondering the entire time I’m driving if I did it right or if my kayak is going to fly off. These straps are so simple and straightforward to use and feel very secure! I didn’t even know something like this existed so I was very excited to find them and try them out.
I like the bag that they come with, and I hope I will be able to roll them up as neatly as they came to fit back in there!
Overall, they seem really well made, and are much easier to use and more lightweight than my old ratchet straps! I also appreciate that they were designed/made by someone who actually knows what they’re doing when it comes to surfboard/paddle boards…or in my case kayaks!

Will update if anything changes but so far 10/10 would recommend!

  9. GSnomad

I like the idea of the rubber protected bucket but it did make these a little harder to use. However the upside is much less risk of the metal buckles damaging anything. For that they are designed to do, as tie down straps I think they are good quality and reasonable value.

  10. Jonathan

I had originally purchased some basic cam-buckle straps that were not made for securing a load that needed to also be protected from damage during transport. I would tuck hand towels in under the buckles and there was always the fear that these would blow away while driving down the highway. When I saw these specialized straps pop up, I knew they were exactly what I needed.

These are incredibly lightweight. Almost so light that I wonder how long they’re going to last, but so far they’re going strong. The metal cam-buckle is fully enclosed in a rubber casing that will prevent it from rubbing and banging on your board or boat while driving. The straps also have a Velcro wrap for gathering us the loose ends and keeping them from flapping in the wind. The convenient carry-bag is a great addition to keep these straps tidy and in one place and ready for use. And for the price, you really can’t beat these. I’m looking forward to more use in warmer weather once spring comes around.

  11. David S.

I like the spring-loaded release for the strap grip and the extra long straps. I used mine for securing a stand-up paddle board to a kayak trailer. There was plenty of length on the strap to go around the trailer frame and the board and I expect this strap to be much less affected by the weather like the rubber bungee straps. Nice touch providing the Velcro strips to hold the extra strap.

  12. Tara P.

Solid! These straps are great. The wide 1.5″ webbing is nice. It wont pinch the rails of the board as much as the standard 1″ webbing on most straps. The buckles are nice quality and look like they should last for quite a while.

  13. BandonTownMan

These are the best Surfboard Tie Down Straps I have ever used. They are very well made, out of high quality materials. The stitching on the straps is strong and the buckles are strong and easy to use and hold the strap tight. The rubber armor around the buckles is great and protects my car and boards from gouges, scratches and dings from the buckles.

The material of the straps has a nice grip to it and stays tucked in where you put it. The carrying pouch is very convenient for when not in use and I think their inclusion was a nice touch. I am going to buy from “Hang 11” in the future. Their equipment is top rate! I highly recommend the Hang 11 Surfboard Tie Down Straps and happily give them 5 Full Stars!

pro: multi-purpose tie down straps; easy to use; no rough edges, so will not damage roof racks
    con: none really
